Auer

Life expectancy: Up to 3000 years

Physical Appearance: Auer (pronounced Ae-yur) look very similar to humans, with some common differences. They are usually taller, on average, and typically leaner in build. Dark skin, ranging from a tanned sienna to a dark coffee color. Their eyes are minimally larger, with irises nearly twice the size as a human’s. Their irises are also a wide variety of colors, bright, and often mimicking the hues of emeralds, rubies, and other gemstones. Their eyes are more adapted to dim lighting, with better capability to see at night, and therefore have generally tiny pupils in standard lighting. While not always a rule, auer are generally more attractive than humans, with flawless skin and sharp features including thin lips and high cheekbones. Their hair coloring ranges in muted tones of black, grey, or a muddy brown.

Age is difficult to determine at first glance with auer. Their bodies remain youthful in appearance until they reach the final five-hundred years of their life, when they begin to age as humans above the age of seventy do. The only physical indicator of age comes in the hue of their eyes. As they grow older, the bright colors begin to take on a dull black, starting at the edges of their irises and working inward. Auer at the end of their natural lives often have pure black irises.

Culture: Auer are deeply connected to the Art - the force allowing for the manipulation of energy to bend the natural laws of Pantracia. All auer hold the ability, unlike humans, who are more often born with little natural connection to the Art. However, under the strict eye of the Law of the Council, they only practice life-giving, or life-preserving, Art. The use of destructive forces is strictly prohibited among their people and upon their island of Eralas. Therefore, the more common human forms of the Art which expel and use energy are greatly frowned upon and forbidden to auer youth. Innocent life is considered sacred to auer, which includes the trees and lush life of the island. Those caught practicing destructive forms of the Art are banished by the Council of Elders, gaining a title known as rejanai and are forever unwelcome in Eralas. To become rejanai is the greatest punishment an auer may incur, and some consider it worse than death.

Auer are reclusive and mysterious to humans, very rarely venturing from their own lands and not often seen on the mainlands of Pantracia. They use their charm to manipulate others, seeing humans as the lesser race and inferior of their respect.
